Miller Couldn’t Get The Win But Aceves Could!

The Red Sox kept giving Andrew Miller a lead and then he just kept giving it right back to the Royals.  He was just not having a great night.  Nothing seemed sharp and at times it seemed like he was throwing BP out there.  Miller was pulled from the game in the 4th inning with the Sox trailing 7-5.  Alfredo Aceves came out in relief and hoped to put a stop to the bleeding.  That is just what he did.  Aceves pitched 3.1 innings, gave up 3 hits and got 3Ks.  He’s just been that guy who has been able to come in and just  be whatever the Sox have needed.  And while Aceves was up on the mound putting up zeroes, the Sox bats continued to go to work and give him the lead.  Aceves got the win and his record is now 6-1 on the season and 20-2 for his career.  Aceves was followed by Matt Albers who had a scoreless inning and then Franklin Morales who annoyed me by giving up 2 runs.

Now let’s talk about that Red Sox offense.  The 3-4-5 guys were JUST ON FIRE.  Dustin Pedroia was *this close* to actually hitting for the cycle.  Instead he just hit 4 for 5 on the night.  When Pedey is hitting clean up, he’s just a monster.  Gonzo was 2 for 3 with a walk.  Papi was 4 for 5 with FIVE RBIs.  That middle of the lineup was just GETTING IT DONE.  Jacoby Ellsbury initially had the night off, but came in during 5th when the Sox were trailing and immediately became a productive aspect of the lineup.  He went 2 for 3 on the night.

The Sox started out in a hole with some less than ideal starting pitching, but they just kept hitting, hittting and hitting.  The Sox scored 13 runs and cruised right along to a fantastic win.
