The Boston Red Sox did their best impression of Rick Vaughn in a 4-2 loss to the Minnesota Twins.
Daisuke Matsuzaka, Manny Delcarmen and Justin Masterson combined to tie a modern-day MLB record with six wild pitches. Boston dropped their second straight game to the Twins.
Matsuzaka remains winless (0-3) pitching five innings, yielding nine hits, three runs, three walks and six strikeouts. His ERA is slightly lower than nine at 8.82 so far this season.
Jacoby Ellsbury pushed his hitting streak to 22 games with a single in the top of the third inning. Jason Bay’s home run streak with men at base ended at 11 as Bay hit a solo blast in the sixth inning.
Goat of the Game – Matsuzaka
Can it just be blamed on the third inning? Why is it always just ONE inning with him?
Next Game – 5/28 vs. Minnesota Twins – Josh Beckett/Anthony Swarzak
Swarzak is 1-0 this season with his only win coming against the Milwaukee Brewers. Swarzak, a righty, pitched seven innings, gave up five hits, no runs, two walks and three strikeouts.
