Minor League Team Hires Dogs to Save Money on Fertilizer

Like most minor league teams, the Northwest Arkansas Naturals, Class AA affiliate of the Kansas City Royals, have been forced to cut back on costs. The Naturals are experimenting with a idea that would save them thousands of dollars on groundskeeping throughout the season. Instead of buying fertilizers to keep the field nice and lush, the Nats have decided to utilize area dogs for this purpose.

The dog owners are generally excited about the idea. “I love it. My dog used to shit in my slippers all the time, and now the team has put a stop to that nonsense,” said Ted Tullyberger, a season ticket holder for 3 years. “Our yard used to smell like ass. Now… well it still smells like ass because we live in Arkansas, but at least I don’t step in shit when I walk around now,” commented manager Brian Poldberg. Still, cost cutting isn’t always as effective as you’d think. Much of the money the Naturals have saved on fertilizer is now going to dog treats.
