Since there’s no game tonight, I’ll put up a thread for the draft. MLB Network broadcast starts at 6 PM, draft starts at 7, the Pirates are expected to pick Gerrit Cole around 7:01. I like the pick of Cole, but I don’t love it. My preference is still for Rendon, though I think that it’s pretty easy to see why the Pirates are worried about him and can understand both why they’ve shied away from him and why they’re so interested in Cole. What does everyone else think?
UPDATE: It’s Cole. The Bucs don’t pick again until tomorrow. Longer post coming later tonight.
UPDATE #2: Holy crap, the Mariners picked Hultzen over Rendon. Teams got Rendon’s medicals this week, I wonder what kind of effect they had on this pick. Most people seemed pretty certain Rendon would be gone at #2 if we didn’t take him.
UPDATE #3: D’Backs take Bauer, as expected, Orioles take Bundy, as expected, Royals take Starling, as expected. Rendon still on the board.
#4: Rendon goes sixth to the Nats. Who have now drafted Strasburg, Harper in Rendon in the last three years. Wow.
