Sean Manaea will take the mound against the Arizona Diamondbacks for the second time this season. In the first game, he went seven innings and allowed zero hits, one walk, zero earned runs, and struck out seven in a win. Manaea absolutely dominated the Diamondbacks earlier this season and Arizona’s offense is not a very threatening one. Didi Gregorius gets to hit in a lineup that is stacked, so his chances of getting an RBI are good, no matter where in the lineup he bats, but he has been hitting near the top of the order recently. He has only played in 32 games this year but he has a .280 batting average and has 12 RBIs. Since his return on June 5 after missing a month of action, he has gotten at least one hit in nine out of 14 games.
Gregorius will take on a pitcher whom he has had a lot of success against. He is 5/14 with three home runs and four RBIs against Martin Perez. Perez has been playing a lot better than his career average indicates and regression will kick in for him. He has a 2.10 ERA and 1.11 WHIP but he has not had a season with an ERA under 4.50 since 2016 and he has only had one season with a WHIP under 1.40 since 2014.
The Phillies are top five in the MLB in home runs and RBIs against left-handed pitchers. Wherever Gregorius bats in the lineup tonight, he will be in a very good position to knock in a runner. With a lot of success against Martin Perez, Gregorius will collect an RBI in this game.
