New York Yankees
For most of 2018, first base was a weakness for the Yankees. This was another lost year for highly-touted prospect Greg Bird, who slashed .199/.286/.386 with 11 home runs and 38 RBI in 311 plate appearances. The only bright spot was trade-deadline acquisition Luke Voit, who needed only 148 plate appearances to collect 14 homers, 33 RBI, a 194 wRC+, and 1.9 fWAR.
With New York’s focus on the pitching market (and maybe Manny Machado), looking for an external upgrade at first base is probably low on Brian Cashman’s offseason priority list. However, it’s hard to deny the uncertainty there for next year.
The Yankees are officially back in a “World Series or Bust” mindset (if it truly ever left, that is), so one would expect them to be busy. Amid that action, it wouldn’t be shocking to see if they tried to make something happen here.
