MLB: Los Angeles Dodgers at Arizona Diamondbacks

Los Angeles Angels

When it comes to overall production at first base, the Angels were better than the Rockies, but not by much. Their cumulative -1.1 fWAR was the third-worst mark in baseball. Los Angeles’ situation would be a little tricky to actually make this work, though.

They still have Albert Pujols under contract for three more seasons, and he’s aiming to be reading for Spring Training after undergoing knee and elbow surgeries. He’ll need to get pushed to first base if Shohei Ohtani keeps progressing back from Tommy John surgery and is ready for full-time designated hitter duties come Opening Day.

Of all the situations we’ve discussed, this one is the probably the least likely to happen because of how the Angels’ roster is constructed (and their own desperate need for rotation help). When specifically drilling it down to what they need — and a desire to get Mike Trout to the postseason before it’s too late — this is an intriguing idea.
