Holiday delayed Monday Mumblings for your perusal.
I go on a mini-vacation to recharge the batteries and all hell breaks loose with the Oakland Raiders. Michael Huff tweeted that he wants to move to corner, Jason Campbell has been working out with Brett “wll he or won’t he?” Favre, the new stadium issues have made progress, and JaMarcus Russell got arrested.
Michael Huff tweeted that he should move to cornerback. It was a joke, of course, it would be insane for him to move from a position where he is nearly a guaranteed starter to one where he would be behind Nnamdi Asomugha, Chris Johnson, and Stanford “highest tender” Routt.
In an effort to get some extra work in before training camp, Jason Campbell has been working out with Brett Favre. Putting in extra work with one of the legends of the game during the dead time between offseason workouts and training camp is a far cry from what the Raiders got from Russell. It is the little things like this which are granting a sense of optimism for the coming season.
Cam Inman of the Oakland Tribune takes a look at the Raiders stadium situation, and cuts to the core of the matter. If the Raiders are going to stay in Northern California, the fans are going to have to pay up and buy the tickets. Whilst the team has been bad for the last few years, the nearly empty Coliseum was an embarrassment. It is going to cost big money to get a new stadium built in Oakland, and it is going to fall into the hands of the fans to ultimately finance the project by purchasing the renamed PSLs as well as tickets. If the Oakland fan base isn’t willing to pay, another city will.
Levi covered the Russell arrest earlier today, but I just have to say that the codeine aspect adds a level of tragedy to Russell’s fall. With the drug issues, he truly will have taken Todd Marinovich’s place in Raider lore.

I hope that everyone had an enjoyable Fourth of July weekend.
