Monday Links – A Lions Highlight, Luke MF Harangody, & The Captain

As you may have heard, a certain Wing4lyfe and Detroit deity was honored this weekend in Canada (eh). Here are today’s links, most of them pertaining to the legacy left by Stevie Y. (And no, I’m not posting that disgusting picture of Yzerman’s bloody eye)

Canada

  • Pierre LeBrun of ESPN wrote a fantastic article about Yzerman’s career, ranging from his competitive drive to his serious nature. Definitely a must-read. [via Hockeytown Blog]
  • Over at Out of Bounds, Greg Eno looks back at the Red Wings’ original plan in the 1983 NHL draft. Though Pat LaFontaine was the Wings’ first choice, most fans would probably say that Plan B worked out nicely (pun absolutely intended). [via Hockeytown Blog]
  • There has been speculation that Allen Iverson is pondering retirement now that his minutes have dwindled in Memphis. Whatever your opinion may be, Bethlehem Shoals (seriously, greatest name ever) of The Baseline throws another idea out there: Iverson to the Knicks? I’m for it, as long as they stop talking about the fucking Yankees for a few days.

Jesus

  • If this post doesn’t send chills running up and down your spine you’re either not human, or from Denver [edit: same thing]. Great stuff from The Chief.
  • After his team beat up on the Bears 41-21 yesterday, Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt offered a tribute to former coach Dennis Green when leaving his post-game press conference. This needs to be in a Coors Light commercial by Super Bowl Sunday.
  • Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press scored an exclusive interview with The Captain that was published yesterday. I love his answer to Helene’s question about Hull and Robitaille: “…we’d go out there and bum around and have a lot of fun.” [via Winging It in Motown]
  • The Big Lead offers its college basketball preview for the season, which officially kicks off tonight. I’m not sure if I’ll get around to writing up a preview for the collegiate season like I did for the NBA (mostly because I’ve been studying4lyfe lately), but you never know.
  • Speaking of college basketball, Seth Davis wrote a nice article about Notre Dame All-American Luke Harangody. The only reason I’m posting it? This line about Harangody’s draft potential last year:
When Cleveland Cavaliers general manager Danny Ferry told Harangody that the Cavs considered former Louisville forward Earl Clark a better pro prospect, Harangody told him, “I have a f—— problem with that.”
Something tells me this guy is going to have a nice career. [via Rakes of Mallow]
Rob’s Highlight of the Day

This may be my only chance to do this all year, but yesterday’s highlight is Bryant Johnson’s one-handed touchdown catch that put the Lions up 14-0 against the Seattle Seahawks.
