Congratulations everyone, you’ve made it through the worst weekend in sports. My Friday night and Saturday morning closely resembled the video below [language NSFW], so I was in no shape to watch the exciting games on TV later on Saturday.
- As expected, Kurt Warner announced his retirement in a press conference yesterday. Warner thanked his family first, bringing his wife and children on stage before talking about everyone in his football life. I can’t think of a reason why anyone wouldn’t respect Warner as one of the best QB’s in the game. I have a soft spot in my heart for Warner, as I made some serious bank back in ’99 when he burst onto the scene and I picked him up on my way to a fantasy football championship.
- I don’t like the name (The Big Chill at the Big House is pretty cheesy), but an outdoor hockey game at Michigan Stadium is finally happening. I was at the original Cold War game in East Lansing back in 2001, and I’m hoping to be in attendance at the rematch ten years later. [via The Blog That Yost Built]
- It’s been a while, but Toronto Maple Leafs fans might just have something to cheer about in the near future. The Leafs traded some dudes I’ve never heard of to the Calgary Flames for some more dudes I’ve never heard of, plus All-Star defenseman Dion Phaneuf. The Leaf also picked up one-year wonder Jean-Sebastian Giguere to be their backup goalie (I hope).
- Wish you had a 95 mile-an-hour fastball? If you’re just looking for money, it doesn’t matter anymore. MLB 2K10 is offering one million dollars to the first person to throw a perfect game after the release on March 2nd.
- Speaking of great pitching, the Tigers and Justin Verlander are reportedly in contract negotiations. The number being thrown around is $75 million over 5 years, similar to the new deal that Seattle gave Felix Hernandez earlier this off-season.
- Rex Ryan apologized for saying “Hi” to the camera this weekend in Miami, but we all know what he was really thinking.
- Hedo Turkoglu has no time for your silly interviews, sideline reporter man. [via Deadspin]
- Guyism has some great news from Down Under: Australia is banning the B’s (and A’s) in adult videos. I don’t really know how this affects our daily lives, but it’s significant nonetheless. At least our government is busy tackling important issues to get us out of this recession. Oh, wait…
- Sharapova’s Thigh is back with one of my favorite features across all the sites I read: the Thigh of the Week. This week Veronika London takes home the honor this week.
Rob’s Highlight of the Day
I’ve had a lot of fun watching the Winter X-Games this year, but unfortunately I can’t find any Snowmobile Freestyle or Best Trick videos, so we’ll go with Shaun White’s gold medal clinching run in the Snowboarding SuperPipe. This is video game ridiculous.
