In what will probably be the first of many times this season, UConn Huskies senior All-American Maya Moore and freshman point guard Bria Hartley were honored by the Big East in the first weekly women’s basketball awards.
Moore was named the Big East Player of the Week while Hartley was named the Big East Freshman of the Week.
In UConn’s first three wins of the year, Moore has averaged 27 points and seven rebounds. In the 80 point win over Holy Cross, Moore had 21 points, seven assists and six rebounds. In the big win over Baylor, Moore had 30 points, seven rebounds, two assists and six steals. On Sunday against her home state school Georgia Tech, she had 30 points, eight rebounds, four assists, two steals and two blocks.
In her first collegiate game, Hartley had 18 points, three rebounds and four assists. She made her first career start against Baylor and had nine points, four rebounds and three assists. On Sunday against Tech, Hartley had 15 points, three assists and two steals.
The Huskies are back in action on Friday night when they’ll host the World Vision Classic at Gampel Pavilion. First up for the Huskies will be Howard, then they’ll play Colgate on Saturday night and will play LSU on Sunday afternoon.
