More on the Starling Marte extension

There are still a few odds and ends to be cleaned up with the Starling Marte signing, so let’s get to it.

First up are the actual contract details. They are, reported by Jon Heyman, as follows:

• $2 million signing bonus
• $500,000 salary in 2014
• $1 million in 2015
• $3 million in 2016
• $5 million in 2017
• $7.5 million in 2018
• $10 million in 2019
• up to $12.5 million in 2020 (option)
• up to $13.5 million in 2021 (option)
• $2 million buyout on the option years

Dave Cameron has some analysis of the deal at FanGraphs, and his conclusion is more or less that this is one of the more team-friendly deals signed anywhere in baseball right now, and that it will probably stay that way for quite a while. I think that’s a pretty hard conclusion to argue with.
