More on Tigers Signee, LHP Brad Thomas

The news of the Tigers signing LHP Brad Thomas and trading LHP Clay Rapada comes from Detroit Tigers Weblog, who took off work this week to keep fans up to date on what is going on at the Winter Meetings.

I was able to find this video of Brad Thomas on YouTube pitching in Korea, where he played the past two years.  He appears to top out at 152 KMH, which is 94 MPH and has a wicked 133 KMH slide-piece (83 MPH).  This is a highlight reel, so obviously we’re only seeing the best, but when he’s on it looks awesome.  He also has very smooth mechanics, which i could get used to watching in the Old English D.

He’s 32-years old and made his MLB debut in 2001 with the Twinkies.  He owns a World Series ring with the Red Sox, as well. He’s 20-3 with a 2.89 ERA and has over 200 strikeouts in his last two seasons in Korea, roughly a K/IP.

Dombrowski expects this guy to be a bullpen guy immediately.
