More Than A Few Saturday Links

I’ll provide some Saturday links on this holiday weekend. While I was at work yesterday, it didn’t feel like work. I tried to work, but doing the links and also looking for paperwork felt surreal. Anyway, time for linkage.

This first link comes courtesy of Newsday’s Neil Best. Newsday hockey writer Mark Hermann says NHL Hall of Fame announcer Jiggs McDonald is among a tour group trapped in Bangkok, Thailand due to the civil and political unrest in that country. I certainly hope Jiggs and the tour group are able to get out of Thailand very soon.

Neil also sides with Charles Barkley after LeBron James called him stupid after criticizing the Cavalier for pussyfooting around with the NBA.

Harry Hurt III writing for the New York Times describes his experience as a sideline reporter for ESPNU as a 57 year old rookie.

Jerry Garcia of the San Antonio Express-News talks about the NFL’s 3D experiment for Thursday’s San Diego-Oakland game.

Nicholas Carlson of the Silicon Valley Insider blog says NBC is still having trouble selling Super Bowl ads due to the struggling economy.

From Ken Schott of the Schenectady Gazette, he writes that readers are split over the NFL Network-Time Warner Cable dispute.

Alan Pergament of the Buffalo News says it wasn’t Time Warner Cable’s fault for the poor picture of last week’s University of Buffalo win over Bowling Green.

Chuck Landis of the Grant County (IN) Chronicle-Tribune talks with Hall of Fame NHL announcer Mike Emrick.

The Dallas News’ Barry Horn has some various news and notes in a holiday weekend column. In his blog, Barry notes that Mark Cuban outrated Jerry Jones in a Sports Business Journal reader poll on best owners in sports. And Barry wonders whether Fox would want Texas or Oklahoma in the BCS Championship Game.

Writing a column for the Rocky Mountain News, Dean Bonham of The Bonham Group, a Denver-based sports and entertainment marketing firm wonders what big event will go to cable after the BCS signed with ESPN.

The Sports Media Watch has your Weekend Ratings Predictions.

After ESPN made a concerted bid for German Bundesliga soccer games, we find that rival Premiere has won exclusive pay TV rights for the next four years.

Bill Bradley of the Sacramento Bee laments the loss of the Great Alaska Shootout from his TV this holiday weekend.

And that will do it for today.
