Justin Morneau, who has struggled the second half of this season (.201 since the All-Star break) will miss the rest of the season due to a stress fracture in his lower back.
Despite his struggles during the second half, this is big news for the Tigers chances to make the post-season. Detroit plays Minnesota seven more times this season and Morneau is one of those guys you just hate to face. A Tiger killer.
This season Morneau is hitting .340/.404/.596 with 3 HRs and 10 RBIs in 11 games against the Tigers. During his career he has faced the Tigers 87 times and is hitting .317 with 17 HRs and 67 RBIs.
So luckily the Tigers will miss Morneau during those seven games, although I wouldn’t say they’ll be “missing” him, Bob.
This is big, great news for the Tigers (even though you never want to wish injury on someone).
