We could have had Oklahoma and Texas A&M, but got Rutgers and Maryland? Oof!…?
Penn State was picked to finish third in the Big Ten this upcoming season by a selected panel of voters from throughout the Big Ten, as conducted by Cleveland.com. Ohio State was the runaway favorite, as expected. A third place finish feels appropriate and respectable for Penn State this season.
Around the Big Ten
You may have heard me say this before, but the Big Ten has plenty of momentum to attempt to carry over at the start of this season. It’s important to keep things moving forward.
Here’s one I will touch on more later, but imagine if the Big Ten had added Oklahoma, Iowa State, Kansas, Nebraska and Texas A&M back in 2010. One report from Omaha.com suggests that was on the table for discussion while Texas was flirting with the Pac-10. That would have been quite different from adding just Nebraska and later Rutgers and Maryland, and likely would have meant Penn State would be on the real outside looking in on the conference. Is Penn State better off with the current Big Ten compared to what could have been a Big 16?
Ohio State is the latest to orchestrate the mannequin scare tactic, and it makes Cardale Jones flip over a chair.
Meanwhile, in East Lansing, Mark Dantonio says running back Delton Williams (who previously was found guilty of a firearms misdemeanor charge) is coming back for fall practice.
Around the Nation
North Dakota State is the team to beat in the Missouri Valley Football Conference. Bo Pelini’s Youngstown State picked fourth… Clemson’s Dabo Swinney says Notre Dame should join a conference or play a 13th game. Georgia Tech’s Paul Johnson was also on record saying the Irish should dive all in with the ACC. New uniforms for Air Force, Bowling Green and USF… The Bloguin Top 50 over at The Student Section has moved into the Top 25 with Arkansas. If you missed it, Penn State was No. 29 and UCLA (with Tom Bradley) was No.28.
