THON once again shows the best Penn State has to offer. Penn State is home to Mr. PA Football. Handing out Oscars and more.

Another year of THON is in the books at Penn State, and once again it was a huge success. This year’s dance marathon raised $13,026,653.23, which is simply fantastic. Good job by everyone involved with this year’s fundraising event.

On a related note, we learned that Christian Hackenberg uses Donkey Kong in Smash Bros.

Meanwhile, former Nittany Lions have been going through the rigors of the NFL Scouting Combine, and Mike Hull did very well.

This weekend also saw one incoming Penn State running back beat out another for the title of Mr. PA Football. Saquon Barkley was named the Class AAA/AAAA Mr. PA Football, beating out Andre Robinson and three others for the award. Barkley is the first Mr. PA Football to go to Penn State.

The Oscars were last night, but I stopped watching once The Walking Dead came on. I had no real rooting interest in any of the awards this year after not seeing any of the big nominated films. I did, however, put together some college football-themed Oscar awards for College Football Talk yesterday, and Penn State’s Sam Ficken was my winner for Best Performance in a Foreign Feature. I also commented on some in-state rivalries I’d like to see back in college football, including Penn State-Pittsburgh (which starts a four-game revival next year, of course).

Northwestern’s football players showed up to a basketball game between Northwestern and Penn State this weekend wearing pads and helmets. This is kind of cool. The football team also gets bragging rights with a wider margin of victory over the Nittany Lions (23 points) compared to their counterparts on the men’s basketball team (21).

Two-Minute Drill

Michigan State to take a step back? Not quite… SEC Network paying out $5 million per member this year. Cute… Oliver Luck the latest NCAA joke… Lots of talk lately about freshman ineligibility. How it affects the business of college basketball and why conferences would be biting their nose to spite their face… How to fix college football recruiting that could benefit the Big Ten… Nebraska bringing in a former Maryland assistant for the staff… Pat Narduzzi expects to bring Michigan State-style offense to Pitt
