Moving On

Sometimes, unexpected things happen.

The past couple months, as we inched closer to baseball season, I argued with myself over whether or not I had the time and/or energy to keep things going here by myself. I’ve been working full-time for about 6 months, and after I got my “real job” in the middle of last season, I felt like the quality and consistency of my posts here dropped a bit. As the Brewers went on a run like we’ve never seen before, I wasn’t 100% happy with the way I was able to write about the ride.

So I was about ready to just give this up and maybe just be a Twitter-only guy with no blog. I wasn’t really sure. Then came the news that Bernie’s Crew and Disciples of Uecker were merging. Jack Moore asked me if I’d be interested in coming over, too. The idea of contributing to something so cool and not having to worry about trying to post something every day was appealing to me. So I told him yes. I’m giving up this blog and joining Disciples of Uecker.

I started writing for The Brewers Bar in July 2009, and didn’t really know what the expect. I was just happy to have a place to write about the Brewers, and I honestly didn’t care if anyone was reading (which was good, because nobody was). The blog migrated to Bloguin in January 2010, and the network provided us with a lot of good relationships and a wider audience. I feel like the blog really hit its stride with Bloguin, and a lot of the credit should go to Derek Hanson, Dave Kelsey, and Ben Koo for making this a great place to run a blog.

I’d like to think I’ve had a pretty successful couple years at Bloguin. We never pulled crazy high traffic numbers here, but my focus was always on quality, not just drawing clicks. I’ve had my stuff linked from SI.com to ESPN to Hardball Talk, had the chance to write for OnMilwaukee.com, and even contributed to last year’s Maple Street Press Brewers Annual. I’d say that isn’t bad for a guy who had no real ambitions at the start of this.

So again, thank you to Derek, Dave, Ben, and everyone else here at Bloguin for originally taking a chance on me and this blog. Thank you to everyone who found this blog, saw something they liked, and kept coming back. Thank you to anyone who’s ever passed along a Brewers Bar link, whether it’s in your own blog, on Twitter, or Facebook.

It’s been a good run here, but it’s time for me to move on.
