Earlier today, the Colorado Rockies announced that pitcher, Jamie Moyer, has been designated for assignment. Moyer, who is 49 years old, joined the Colorado Rockies prior to the start of the 2012 season. Jamie Moyer holds numerous records including the oldest player to play in Major League Baseball, the oldest pitcher to record a win, the oldest player to record an RBI, and the oldest player to pitch a shutout. Making his debut in 1986 for the Chicago Cubs after pitching at Saint Joseph’s University just outside of Philadelphia, Moyer is the only player to have played in four different decades. During his career, he has pitched for eight different teams, including the Seattle Mariners from 1996 until 2006, where he was selected to his only All-Star game in 2003 and the Philadelphia Phillies from 2006-2010, where he won his only World Series title in 2008.
Under the conditions of being designated for assignment, the Colorado Rockies officially removed Moyer from the 40-man roster. They have 10 days to complete one of the following actions: return Moyer to the 40-man roster, place him on waivers, trade him, or release him. Will this be the end of the long road for the former Phillie? Stay close to TSL to see what the ultimate decision will be.
