Mr. Thompson to the Green Room

Good Morning Cougar Fans!

If you follow our Twitter, I am sure you know how much I absolutely despise the NBA.  From it’s scum bag Commissioner with a broken business model, to the “we don’t play defense” attitude of the players, and the two months that is the NBA Playoffs, I am absolutely thrilled the NBA will be locked out next year.  I could care that much about the league.

However, one of our own is sure to make a name for himself at Thursday’s draft in New York City.  Is it time for me to change me colors on this league?

When Klay committed to WSU in September 2007, I knew then and there Tony Bennett had landed a special player.  Then, I was visiting Pullman in August of 2008, the weekend before classes started and I met Klay on the sidewalk outside of Munchy’z as a wide-eyed Freshmen.  The first time I saw him play was against Pitt in 2008, after the funeral of one of my fraternity brothers.  His silky smooth jump shot and poise reminded me a lot of Brandon Roy, and helped ease the memories of Kyle’s passing.  Who will ever forget the 30+ barrages?  Certainly not the UW defenders, the ASU Sun Devils or the San Diego Torreros!  He may not have the All-Time Scoring Record at WSU or led the team to the NCAA Tournament twice, but I think he would beat Isaac Fontaine, Don Collins, Kyle Weaver, and Mark Hendrickson nine times out of ten, in 1 on 1, in each of their primes!

Klay Thompson is appearing on most Mock Drafts as a lock from somewhere between 9-15.  In the most recent edition of ESPN the Magazine in which current NBA players selected the players they wanted in a fun mock draft, Cleveland’s Baron Davis wants the Cavs to take Klay at #4!  Thompson might not be able to lead WSU to the NCAA Tournament, but he will definitely give me an NBA team to root for!

The next time you see Klay, he will be in the Green Room at the NBA Draft.

“And with the ______ selection in the NBA Draft, the _________ _________ select Klay Thompson, Shooting Guard, Washington State University.”
