Mudhens Turn Field into Mini-golf Course

It’s not all that uncommon for baseball parks to be used to host football games, hockey games or even rock concerts. But mini-golf?

You better believe it.

“The team gave me full rein to do what I wanted, and I’ve always wanted to do this,” Jake Tyler, sports turf manager for the Toledo Mud Hens said. “We had originally thought we’d use the whole field to do 18 holes, but tee times were booked up so quickly that I’ve had to divide the field and make 36 holes.”

For $15 (proceeds go to charities) you can take a crack at the awesomely named The Links at Fifth Third Field, but here’s the rub…the team is only making the course available between September 25-28. And while there are no wooden windmills or concrete dinosaurs to get in your way, Tyler does insist that the course will be challenging.

“The first nine holes will have a lot of angles, doglegs, and sand traps,” he said. “The back nine gets confusing when the fairway of 14 and 15 intersect each other, and hole 17 may be the hardest because it finishes up on top of the pitcher’s mound.”

Sounds pretty cool.
