Multiple Sources: Cable is out

According to multiple sources including Raiders.com, Al Davis has informed Tom Cable as of Tuesday that the team will not extend his coaching option for 2011 and 2012. This is an intriguing move by Mr. Davis and implies that Davis already has other ideas in mind.

We’ll see what the future holds for the Raiders organization, but this move appears to be against the wishes of the Raider players as well as many of the fans and will leave many people scratching their heads, while putting an ear to ear grin on the face of Adam Schefter.

The move could be making way for a promotion of Hue Jackson, but if that is the case, then why would the Raiders grant the San Francisco 49ers permission to talk with the offensive coordinator? Hue Jackson is thought to be primed to take over the head coaching position. As of yet, that is unconfirmed.

Update: A source close to Hue Jackson says the job will be given to Jackson. This according to Vittorio Tafur of the San Francisco Chronicle. Rumor has it that some folks close to Jackson have told him that he should seek employment with another organization.  And there is speculation of a return of Rob Ryan to Oakland.

Update:
Comcast SportsNet’s Henry Wofford spoke to Jackson via phone shortly after the Raiders made their decision on Cable public. Jackson said that he had just completed his exercise workout and when he turned his phone back on he realized he had several messages.  Jackson confirmed some of the messages were from the Raiders front office but said he had not interviewed for the Raiders’ head coaching position. He said he is interested in the job and planned to contact Raiders executives Tuesday night. Jackson said he had not talked to Cable and had no idea Cable was not returning.

Update:
“We have not talked to anybody yet,” says Raiders executive John Herrera. “Nothing has been done. This was the decision that had to be made first. No one has been contacted.”

Herrera says there is no timetable to hire a new coach and they have not interviewed anyone… yet.
