MVN Outsider tackles the Red Sox, HoF Kell passes

Today, over at MVN Outsider, there are three Red Sox-centric articles that may be of interest:

  • Fantasy Baseball 2009: Boston Red Sox

Brad Berreman is pretty optimistic about several players this year such as Josh Beckett and Jason Bay. He projects Bay to hit 30-35 home runs, which I think any of us would take. He’s also high on Jacoby Ellsbury — check it out.

  • An Ode to Curt Schilling

Kurt Evans, a Cubs fan, checks in to pay homage to Schilling. Even though he feels Schilling wanted to benefit from the “rub” of other players/teams, he gives respect to the man responsible for the Bloody Sock Game.

  • Great Debates: Is Schilling Hall Worthy?

Evans takes on Jaymes Langrehr in a battle to determine if Schilling is Hall worthy. Langrehr: “He may have never been the best pitcher of his generation, but he was one of the best clean players in an era where you never really knew who to trust.

Also, Hall of Fame third baseman George Kell has passed away. Kell, a Hall of Fame third baseman, played mostly with the Detroit Tigers and beat out Ted Williams by .0001 point. He was a Red Sox from 1952-4 and hit .305/.383/.451 while with the club.

He ended as a career .306/.367/.414 hitter in 15 seasons with 2,054 hits. He was 86.

In other passing, John Brattain of The Hardball Times and other sites passed away at the age of 43.

Condolences to Kell and Brattain’s family.
