Welcome to the Bills offseason.
Instead of talking about how Rex is going to fix the defense or how they can afford to keep Incognito/Glenn, we gotta talk about LeSean McCoy, Turtle, Drama and the rest of his entourage kicking the crap out of off-duty cops.
There’s been a few videos that have surfaced with McCoy throwing a few punches. However, it involves at least 6 people, so, it makes it pretty hard to determine how badly Shady messed up someone. If he was the 5th guy in and threw one punch that barely connected which one of the videos shows, I don’t exactly think he’ll be in that much trouble besides a payoff. If he was the one who ordered his boys to fuck shit up and McCoy was basically Patrick Swayze in Road House, then things get really dicey.
On the other hand, we are dealing with off-duty cops and I’m not talking about how their department may want to throw the book at #25 (More on that later). I’m talking about how there are some cops out there that when they are off-duty and out at bars, they are all around assholes because they are above the law. Hell, look at that shit that went down at Molly’s Pub with the off-duty cops trying to cover up their beat down of some army vet.
When I was 22, I used to see off duty cops drink their asses off at Soho and be complete assholes. A saw one off-duty cop throw a friend of mine literally out of his way to get to a bar for drinks and none of the bartenders/bouncers gave a fuck. Bars tend to placate to cops because the bars can get away with underage drinking if the cops are being treated right. Plus, if they have issues with patrons, its always good to have a few cop friends in your pocket in order to throw people out. In other words, if you are going to stereotype athletes as being assholes at clubs, you should do the same for off-duty cops.
Of course, whether he threw one punch or 100 punches, it may not matter because McCoy has a target on his back because:
1) His entourage beat up 0ff-duty cops. If these were just regular folks, I think it would be easier for McCoy to probably settle out of court. However, they are cops and I could see the police wanting to make a huge statement about not messing with them.
2) He’s the richest/most famous of the crew. I find it a bit interesting that after the cops left the hospital, they allegedly were going to just say “Fuck it” and chalk it up to it being a bar fight that they lost. Then they decided to report the incident once they figured out who McCoy and his entourage were. Hmmmmm. I’m sensing they were feeling a pay day was in order.
Already reports are coming out that McCoy has hired a defense attorney and that the case is already with the DA. In other words, this isn’t going away and neither will our takes. Already we have TBN hot takes that the Bills should cut ties with him which is about as shocking as lamestreamers being pissed off about Cam Newton leaving a presser. This is the same publication that demanded for Dareus to be cut, couldn’t deal with Stevie Johnson’s “antics” and countless other sanctimonious snap shots about the players they cover. Already Sucky Gleason is trying to act that McCoy had all these issues previously which I’ve chalked up to bullshit yellow journalism.
I just can’t at this juncture.
Just fake outrage meets reaction to the reaction. Yeah, I’m guilty of this, but it just gets so old after awhile. Specifically the fake outrage. Remember last year when Aaron Kromer beat up a teenager and that was talk of the summer Bills twitter? Basically everyone wanted the dude fired (Raises hand). And you know what happened? He settled out of court, got suspended, came back after 6 weeks and no one gave a fuck anymore. No one was picketing at 1 Bills Drive. There weren’t any follow up pieces on how he needed to get canned. It was your latest example of the 24/7 news cycle colliding with the twitter expiration date of being pissed off about a specific subject.
And to that, I think that’s what will probably happen here. McCoy will get charged. He’ll give the victims a shitload of money. He’ll go on probation. And then he’ll get suspended for like 3 games. Then when he comes back and hopefully plays well, no one is going to care except lamestreamers trying to be witty twats on Twitter about his brush with the law.
Look, my concern is to get McCoy back to playing. I’m a Bills fan, not a #twitterfather or boss of the company he works for. I’ve always maintained that my threshold for off the field issues is basically don’t do the following: domestic violence, murder or bigotry. Bar brawls that last 30 seconds at 3am? Eh. I’m chalking this up to meatheads being meatheads. Just be there on Sundays to do your job.
So, takes are going to come left and right during this, but you’ll forget about this by the time the season starts and that’s what matters most.
