Don’t let the stats fool you after this one. The Bills had over 400 yards in total offense and had 105 more yards than Denver. Kyle Orton had 355 yards passing, Sammy Watkins had over 100 yards receiving, and Manning struggled. Yet, when you actually sit down and watch the game, the fact remains clear: The Buffalo Bills offense is a joke.
All those yards they got in the 4th quarter were pretty much in garbage time when Denver just wanted Orton to check down to Fred Jackson in order to keep the clock ticking. If I’m the entire Bills defense, I’m pretty much challenging the offensive unit to a trial by combat on the plane ride home. The defense did every single fricken thing you can ask for. EVERYTHING. Peyton Manning looked mortal as he didn’t have a touchdown pass for the first time in 51 games. I mean, Manning was fricken 14-20 for 173 yards and 2INTs?! It was the fewest yards Manning had since the finale against the Bills in 2009 where he played just one quarter. Hell, you’d have to go back to 2008 to find a full game in which Manning had less than 173 yards.
I would have took that any day of the week. The defense showed up. This wasn’t your 2003/2004 Buffalo Bills squad that would get curb stomp the likes of the McCown brothers, only to then get crushed by decent offenses. You totally sign up for this in blood if you can get Denver to score 24 points on any given Sunday. However, the Bills offense couldn’t answer the bell. For the 10th time this year, the Bills offense scored two or fewer offensive TDs. It was Orton’s 6th game where they scored two offensive TDs or fewer. I can’t. I just can’t deal with how badly our QBs are.
Kyle Orton sucks.
I don’t care if he’s better than Trent Edwards and Ryan Fitzpatrick. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, that’s not the standard you want to fucking judge your QB by BECAUSE OUR QBS HAVE SUCKED SINCE 2004. Today’s average NFL QB would be a Wall of Fame candidate in our eyes because of the ineptitude at the position that we’ve endured. You want to compare your QB to the teams that you are chasing after. No offense, all those teams in that 7-6 logjam or sitting pretty as division leaders have better QBs than the Bills do. Orton is a laughingstock if he’s your starting QB. Everyone outside of Buffalo is saying this. He’s the same guy who lost his job to Tim Tebow and Brady Quinn. Think about that..
He’s a journeyman QB who will get you 2-3 decent games in relief, but when you want him to start an entire season, this is what you get: Mediocrity. We are absolutely no where at QB. If the Bills had a decent QB with the way their defense has been playing, they would be a playoff team. Instead, we get a wasted effort by the defense.
—Ugh. I don’t want to keep piling on Orton, but he really stunk. Take away the two garbage time TDs and the Bills had drives of 23, 41, 55, 6, 0, 0, 9, 55, and 8 yards. Just I can’t say anymore about him. Until the Bills figure the QB position, they will be 7-9 for the end of time. If anything, Orton’s weird ass slide where it looked like if he ran with his head down he may get a 1st down… was the epitome of being a pussy. I mean, WTF was he thinking? He lacked pocket awareness and didn’t go down the field enough. Just it may be time to see EJ Manuel. I mean, come on, you really are gonna tell me that Orton won these games for us over the last month or so? I give him Minnesota as the last game I really felt he made a difference. He’s been EJ Manuel and since EJ has the upside, I’d rather see him in there.
—Aside for the fumble, Sammy Watkins had a really nice game today. Watkins had 7 catches for 127 yards on just 12 targets. 18.7 yards per catch is pretty stellar. He’s set the record for most 100-yard games by a rookie WR in Bills history. He’s the first Bills WR to get four 100-yard games in a season since Lee Evans in 2008. Will be nice to see what the guy can do when he actually gets a competent QB.
—11 penalties for 98 yards. Look, I think you’d be dumb to say that the refs had it out for the Bills and they would have won this game if the refs didn’t suck. Bad calls tend to even out and Bills fans seem to accentuate the refs flaws when the shit hits the fan because we love to point the finger to anyone that affects this team. However, it doesn’t mean we have to like it and pretend the refs were fine. The officiating stunk today and I don’t even know what illegal contact means nowadays. Also, it would be nice if CBS could actually show a replay on some of these personal foul penalties instead of promoting shitty-ass CBS Shows. I mean, I still don’t know what Kyle Williams did wrong on the Corey Graham INT return. Still, the Bills were losing this game because the offense sucked, not because the refs fucked them over.
—I can’t believe Manning had a QB rating of 56.4. That’s the lowest rating Manning has had in a regular season game since 2008.
—I can’t believe we punted on 4th and 2 in the 4th quarter. Seriously. I’m so over bitching about Marrone’s game management at this juncture because its a weekly occurrence. I mean, the dude goes for it on 4th and 6th in the 1st quarter which was pretty ballsy and then you punt on 4th and 2 when you are down by 2 TDs? I don’t get it. Is Marrone just flipping the Two Face coin from Harvey Dent to figure this out?

—I love Fred Jackson, but he looks gassed. He jut shouldn’t be your feature back this day and age. The Bills haven’t had a 100 yard rusher this year and if they go 0-16 this season, it will be the first time since 1979 they haven’t had a RB go over 100 yards.
Final word: I’ll just say this, I thought the defense looked great today and I really hope the Bills try and keep this unit in tack. They stood up to Manning today and I feel comfortable with them going against the best offenses in the NFL. However, until the offense carries their weight, this will be the same team result when they play against a team that can get you over 20 points.
