NAIA Women’s Volleyball has entered the conference playoff phase. After conference playoffs conclude we enter the playoff round of the NAIA Women’s Volleyball National Championship. I can feel this event coming soon, which leads me to the obvious choice for tonight’s song – “In the Air Tonight” by Phil Collins.

Anyway the NAIA tournament is unique among the four women’s National Championships because it features pool play followed by an eight team single elimination round to select the Champion. This methodology leads to more Volleyball (Always a good thing!) and a truer determination of the champion. Here’s the 411 on the tournament, which starts one week from tonight with the Playoff round.

35th Annual NAIA Women’s Volleyball National Championship
Date(s): November 22 and December 2-6, 2014
Where: Tyson Events Center, 401 Gordon Dr., Sioux City, IA 51101 (box office 712-279-4850)
Format: The Volleyball national championship includes a field of 36 teams. Twenty-four teams will compete in 12 national championship opening round matches played on campus sites nationwide on Nov. 22. The top 11 seeds and final site host Briar Cliff (Iowa) receive an opening round bye. Opening round winners will join the top 11 and host at the final site for a 24-team pool play tournament. The top two teams from each pool advance to single elimination championship play.

Wednesday 12/3/14 Pool Play (three courts) 1:00 pm, 3:15 pm, 5:45 pm, 8 pm
Thursday 12/4/14 Pool Play (three courts) 1:00 pm, 3:15 pm, 5:45 pm, 8 pm
Tie Breaker Playoffs (if necessary) 10:15 pm
Friday 12/5/14 Single Elimination (two courts) 10:00 am, 12:30 pm
*Quarterfinal Matches (two courts) 5:45 pm, 8:00 pm
Saturday 12/6/14 Semifinal Matches 11:00 am
*Championship Match (main court) 7:00 pm

Individual Match Tickets:
$10 – Adults
$5 – Children ages 6-18 and college students with ID
Week Passes:
$35 – Adults ($25 for teachers with school ID)
