Expectations were rather high for newly-signed free agent Nate Washington in 2009. Considered an up-and-comer at the WR position, the Tennessee Titans were banking on Nate to provide the team with a badly needed playmaking threat in the passing game.
Despite scoring six touchdowns, inconsistency was often the name of Nate Washington’s game in 2009. Mired by untimely drops (cough, cough, the second Colts’ game), Nate’s ability to serve as a formidable weapon in the Titans’ aerial attack was often hindered by his inability to simply hold onto the football.
Entering his second season as a Titan, what does 2010 have in store for Nate Washington?
Overcoming a bum hammy suffered towards the end of the preseason last year, Nate displayed his playmaking potential by scoring three touchdowns in the team’s first four games in ’09.
Unfortunately, his rate of end zone production decreased, as he amassed the same amount of scores over the course of the remaining twelve contests.
His speed certainly added a dynamic that was previously missing from the Titans’ passing game. Unfortunately, his wheels were overshadowed by the dropped passes that emerged as a staple in Washington’s game in ’09.
Continuing the overshadowing theme, Nate was outdone by rookie first-rounder Kenny Britt, who stole Nate’s thunder a bit as he emerged as the team’s most productive wideout in 2009.
With 2010 looming on the horizon, I’m hoping for a more consistent showing out of Nate. As QB Vince Young continues to become more comfortable in the offense, I’m expecting Nate to have the opportunity to catch more passes this year.
Of course, whether or not he will hang onto those potential receptions is up in the air.
Kidding aside, I’m expecting a better performance out of Nate Washington in 2010…something like 60 catches, 800 yards and 6 scores.
