The Jayson Werth Chia Pet will be handed out August 5, when the Arizona Diamondbacks hit DC to take on the Nationals.
This isn’t the first time, the folks on the Nats marketing team have taken advantage of their right fielder’s flowing follicles. This past August, the team gave away garden gnomes modeled after Werth. But that’s nothing compared to the team’s Single-A affiliate in Potomac who, in the past year have given away Werth bobbleheads (with “real” beards) and a “Wolf-a-rine” of the 2009 National League All-Star.
And before you question if Werth even played with Potomac…he did.
The bearded slugger spent a week with the team in May 2013 re-habbing a hamstring injury. He hit .556 in 20 plate appearances. You know…if you were curious.
