In retrospect, if Caldwell had gone soft on McAfee, especially in the wake of a come-to-Jesus talk with his team, he would have been seen as soft and ineffectual. It would have further undermined his authority with a group of players who still remember last December and that game against the Jets.
None of this makes the hurt or anger from that day go away; this group will live forever with what could have been.
But with the season on the brink, a need-to-win game on the horizon and a punter/swimmer crisis in his lap, Caldwell did what he absolutely had to do. He got his team back.
I think Kravitz WAAAAAY oversells his case here. This seems like more “bring up 14-2 because it makes people mad” stuff. This was overdramatic for my taste.
