On Saturday, June 28th, the second annual Army vs. Navy Arena Football game will take place on the University of Penn’s campus at the historic Class of 23 Arena. This event will be hosted by AFL China an international company taking the Arena Football League to China, and plan to have a league running in China this coming fall. But right now, the team is preparing for an exciting game that will renew rivalries between Army and Navy’s football programs! With historic Navy and Army players playing in this game it’s bound to be exciting.
In 2009, Navy quarterback Ricky Dobbs set an NCAA record for the most rushing touchdowns by a quarterback with 27. Now, after serving in the United States of America’s Navy, and playing semi professional football for the Virginia Cyclones, Dobbs will take his talents inside and attempt to win Navy’s second Arena game. Dobbs may have to adapt to the indoor game where it will be harder for him to freely run, considering he only has three offensive linemen and a fullback, and a narrower playing field. His arm strength and accuracy though make him a huge factor in the game.
Shun White signed a contract with the New England Patriots in 2009 after graduating from the Naval Academy. He never get a chance to play for Tom Brady’s Pats as he had to fulfill a service in the Navy. From 2009-2012, he was on the reserve/military list for the Patriots and was released in 2012. Talk about a humble and responsible football player. Now he’ll play with Ricky Dobbs once again, but this time it’ll be inside.
Tyree Barnes had a very similar situation to White’s signing with the Patriots in 09. He then went and served his two years in the Navy and then tried out for the Patriots. After being released he spent time in the CFL and now joins forces with Dobbs and White as NFL caliber players playing on June 28th in the Army vs. Navy Arena Football Game. Dobbs should have no problem with receivers considering he has two NFL alumni playing on his team.
The only other official players announced so far for Navy are below:
Shalimar Brazier- Defensive Back
LeVaughn Kelly- Defensive Back
Chris Person- Defensive Lineman
Frank Schenk- Kicker
Stay tuned on Total Sports Live these next coming days as more players and news becomes available on the game. The best way to watch the game is live in person!
