The unpredictability of sports is one of the main reasons that they are so intriguing to fans.  So, in the vein, The Hoops Manifesto will be tracking the biggest surprise NBA player this season – the player who (positively) deviated most from his norm and had a crazy good season.  This is the NBA Eye Opener of the Year.

Larry Nance Jr. – Los Angeles Lakers

7.3 ppg, 4.6 rpg, 1.0 apg, 1.6 spg, 61.1% FG, 0.438 WP/48

His traditional numbers shown above don’t jump off the screen, but the advanced metrics are very kind to Larry Nance Jr. this year.  He’s improved his Wins Produced/48 minutes from a slightly above average 0.112 in his rookie season to the eye opening 0.438 so far this year.  He’s also in the top 10 in the league in Steal % and Offensive Rating.  Not bad for a late first round pick.
