This coming Tuesday, it is a huge night following the playoff match up against Washington that has come down to a Game 7 for the Boston Celtics.
Not only are the Celtics in contention to see Cleveland in the Conference Finals, but having the best odds to win the NBA Lottery certainly cannot hurt for this C’s club. Brooklyn originally would own this pick, but because of the Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce swap a few years back, the Nets are still paying the Celtics back in that deal. The deal included the swap rights to this year’s draft pick, and because Brooklyn landed with the worst record, it automatically propelled them to the #1 spot.
The Celtics have a 25% chance, according to statistical websites, to land the #1 pick for this coming Tuesday night. Following the top regarded pick, 21.2 is the percentage of the C’s grabbing the #2 spot and 17.8% is for the #3 selection, the pick Danny Ainge and company had this past draft to select University of California freshman phenom SF Jaylen Brown. The fourth pick is at approximately 36%, and the worst the Celtics can do in the draft selection since after the third pick by lottery balls, teams 4-15 are arranged by regular season records, given the Celtics are 50+ wins, they would be the top spot.
Here are some prospects the Celtics could pursue if we were to keep our pick (1-3) instead of trading for a bigger name veteran.
Josh Jackson SF/PF Kansas- A wing player that has elite athleticism, Jackson can make it to the next level as a stretch 4 but primarily as a wing player.
Jonathan Issac PF/C Florida State- A 6’10 forward who can be pivotal, Issac has not reached his full potential with the Seminoles but at the next level, he can be a versatile big man.
Jayson Tatum SF Duke- A legit small forward who is a threat when near the hoop, Tatum is a hot commodity coming into the draft.
De’Aaron Fox- An elite speed guard, Fox can turn on the jets in a flash while being one of the craftiest guards in this year’s class.
