The Golden State Warriors have just issued a press release regarding the 2014-15 NBA schedule.
OAKLAND, Calif. – The National Basketball Association announced today that the Golden State Warriors 2014-15 season, presented by Kaiser Permanente, begins on Wednesday, October 29, with a road game against the Sacramento Kings. The Warriors home opener is scheduled for Saturday, November 1, when the team plays host to the Los Angeles Lakers at Oracle Arena.
The Warriors second home game is against the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday, November 5, in a rematch of the teams’ hard-fought, seven-game series in the First Round of the 2014 NBA Playoffs. The Warriors and Clippers will also meet on December 25 in Los Angeles, marking Golden State’s fourth Christmas Night appearance in the last five seasons.
Coming off a season in which the team posted a 51-31 regular-season record, the Warriors are slated to make a franchise-record 19 national television appearances this season, with one (1) game scheduled on ABC, nine (9) on ESPN and nine (9) on TNT. Golden State’s lone ABC appearance is on Sunday, March 8, in a special 12:30 p.m. matinee when the Clippers make their second and final regular-season visit to Oracle Arena. The Warriors ESPN lineup features home games against the Clippers on November 5; the new-look Cleveland Cavaliers on Friday, January 9; the Houston Rockets on Wednesday, January 21; the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday, February 4, and Friday, March 6; the NBA Champion San Antonio Spurs on Friday, February 20; the Lakers on Monday, March 16; and the Denver Nuggets on Wednesday, April 15, in the regular-season finale. Highlights of the team’s TNT docket include visits to Oracle Arena by the Oklahoma City Thunder on Thursday, December 18; the Phoenix Suns on Thursday, April 2; and the Portland Trail Blazers on Thursday, April 9; as well as road games against the Clippers in Los Angeles on Christmas Night and Tuesday, March 31; the Cavaliers in Cleveland on Thursday, February 26; and the Trail Blazers in Portland on Tuesday, March 24. In addition to their 19 combined appearances on ABC, ESPN and TNT, the Warriors also have a franchise-record four (4) games scheduled on ESPN Radio, as well as six (6) currently scheduled to air on NBA TV, the league’s 24-hour cable network.
Golden State is on the road for 17 of its first 28 games and then at home for 12 of the next 15 contests. The team embarks on a season-long, six-game road trip from February 22 – March 2, capping an 11-game span that includes 10 road games. The schedule includes a pair of season-long, six-game home stands, the first from December 27 – January 9 and the second from March 14-23. The club plays 11 of its final 18 games at home, including each of the final four games of the regular season – the first time Golden State has ended a season with four-consecutive home games since 1976-77. The Warriors have 19 back-to-backs on the schedule.
Tip-off time for the majority of Golden State’s home games during the 2014-15 season will be 7:30 p.m. The three exceptions include a special matinee on Monday, January 19, when the Warriors host the Denver Nuggets at 1:00 p.m. as part of the NBA’s Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Celebration; a 5:00 p.m. start on Sunday, January 25 versus the Boston Celtics; and the Sunday matinee versus the Clippers, March 8, on ABC.
The 2014-15 NBA schedule will once again use a 30-team format (two conferences of 15 teams each, with three five-team divisions within each conference) in which teams will play each opponent within their division four times, while playing six of the remaining 10 teams in their conference four times, and the four remaining teams in their conference only three times. Teams will also play all 15 opponents outside of their conference two times each. For 2014-15, the Warriors will play only three games against the following Western Conference opponents: San Antonio Spurs (two at home, one away), Denver Nuggets (two at home, one away), Portland Trail Blazers (one at home, two away), and Memphis Grizzlies (one at home, two away).
