NBA stories for the 2013-14 season

Mike Ribeiro

The NBA off-season is still underway but there has been some very interesting stories so far. Here are some questions fans ask before the season kicks off. Will Miami 3-peat? Who can knock off the defending champs? What rookies can make a big impact this year? What teams are going to make a push for Andrew Wiggins?

That is just a few questions for this NBA season. There have been plenty of moves this off-season and bad teams has gotten better. Good players are coming off injuries this season and competitions are heating up. Here are some stories for this year:

 A New Look

Dwight Howard

There are a  few teams that added a few pieces to there team and there’s different teams who can compete for the championship. The biggest name this off-season was Dwight Howard. After an upsetting season with the Los Angeles Lakers, Howard is now in Houston. Howard just made Houston a championship contender now joining forces with James Harden and Chandler Parsons. Houston is one of the young teams in the Western Conference who can compete to win the conference.

The Los Angeles Clippers is another team who has a new look by adding head coach Doc Rivers. Chris Paul decided to resign with the team and the Clippers added some talent to help out Paul and Blake Griffin.

The Golden State Warriors added Andre Iguodala to their talented team with Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson. The Warriors is a young team in the west like the Rockets who can be a favorite in the Western Conference.

The New Orleans Pelicans changed their name in the off-season. With a new point guard in Jrue Holiday and newly added Tyreke Evans, the Pelicans can now be a playoff team. They are very young but very talented. Head Coach Monty Williams should have a blast this season with new talent.

The Eastern Conference still looks the same except the new and improved Detroit Pistons and Brooklyn Nets. The Nets adds veterans Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, and Jason Terry. Joining Deron Williams and all star Brook Lopez. The Nets hopes that first year head coach Jason Kidd can make this team a favorite in the east and championship contender.

Rebuilding teams

celtics-offseason

The Boston Celtics is one of the teams looking to rebuild since the departure of Garnett, Pierce, and Rivers. It seems like Rajon Rondo is on a ship alone now. The Celtics added some role players but the talent isn’t good enough to compete in the East.

Other teams that’s in the rebuilding period:

Utah Jazz

Milwaukee Bucks

Philadelphia 76ers

Orlando Magic

Can they bounce back?

Former MVP Derrick Rose will make his NBA comeback this season and what isbetter than watching him play the defending champions their first game?

Rose missed the entire 2012-13 season because of a torn ACL injury. The Bulls certainly missed the former all star in Rose but can he return back to normal self? That is the question NBA fans are wondering this year. If Rose returns back 110% like he said he was, then watch out Miami.

In the 2012-13 season Kobe Bryant tore his Achilles tendon before the playoffs. The Lakers were devastated but so was Bryant. We are uncertain when Bryant will return but when he does, NBA fans will be watching.

Other players we keep an eye on:

Russell Westbrook- torn meniscus

Rajon Rondo- torn ACL

Highly Anticipated Draft Class:

Andrew-Wiggins-1

The 2014 NBA draft class may be the best draft class since 2003.

Highly anticipated Kansas freshmen Andrew Wiggins seems to be the best player out of high school since Lebron James. Wiggins is a must draft player for any team. NBA teams look to prepare to get Wiggins with the #1 draft pick in 2014. Wiggins is the most explosive player in this draft with crazy potential.

NBA Teams who can grab Wiggins:

Philadelphia 76ers

Orlando Magic

Charlotte Bobcats

Boston Celtics

New Orleans Pelicans

Phoenix Suns

Utah Jazz

This draft class has many potential all stars including; The Harrison Twins, Julius Randle, Wayne Seldon, Marcus Smart, Dante Exum, and Aaron Gordon. Dont be surprised to see teams trade up in the 2014 NBA Draft. There is star potential all across the board.

2014 NBA Free Agents

lj

Following the 2014 draft class, the 2014 potential agents could be the best free agency ever. If  Miami some how lose the championship next year, you could see that team split apart. James, Dwayne Wade, and Chris Bosh will all be potential free agents in 2014.

Carmelo Anthony one of the biggest potential free agents who can opt out his contract next season. It would be hard to see players like Kyrie Irving, Paul George, Dirk Nowitzki, and Bryant leave their teams but it could happen. Nowitzki and Bryant are both getting to their last leg and could both try and go for one more championship.

Other Big Name Free Agents:

Greg Monroe

Demarcus Cousins

Derrick Favors

Kemba Walker

Evan Turner

Luol Deng

Anthony Davis
