Forgive me for not rushing to my computer to post this this afternoon, but the Pirates announced today that Neal Cotts and a bunch of guys even less exciting than Neal Cotts (Tyler Yates, Brian Burres, Craig Hansen, Jeremy Powell, Jean Machi, and Virgil Vasquez) have been given invites to spring training.
Cotts is erratic (only two years with an ERA+ above 100 since 2005, but his 2005 season was outstanding) but he is a lefty and he’s performed well at Triple-A in the past two seasons, though he’s coming off of TJ surgery. Pretty much everyone else on that list is cannon fodder.
