Do they look exactly like the uniforms NBA referees wear? Maybe, but the intent is understandable |
In the newest itineration of Netlinked, a feature Brooklyn Balling will be featuring more frequently from now until the end of the season, we take a look at a new Nets jersey which will be the first Brooklyn Nets threads to have blue and gray on them, as opposed to just black and white.
ESPN.com's Darren Rovell (Northwestern alum, yay!) is reporting that the Nets will honor Brooklyn's last major sports team–the Brooklyn Dodgers–with the new uniforms in five "Brooklyn Blue Nights" games this season, with the first coming on March 21st against the Celtics.
The jerseys resemble the famous blue-and-gray colors of the Dodgers, who left Brooklyn after the 1957 for greener pastures in Los Angeles, and are an attempt by the Nets to appeal to native Brooklynites who would like the idea of a more "Brooklyn" look, even if just for a few games a year. Also, the new uniforms–with sleeves–continue the NBA's push of sleeved jerseys and will surely be a hit in terms of merchandise sales. I like the idea of Brooklyn having an alternate jersey that isn't nearly as ugly as the Christmas Day ones.
