Deron has been injured far too much in his Nets' tenure; feels like he misses more games than he plays in |
Just some more tidbits of Nets-related news for your viewing pleasure on this Tuesday night. By the way, those Nets are in the midst of a three-game winning streak and take on the Golden State Warriors tomorrow night at Barclays:
Deron Williams–who was sidelined for yesterday's Brooklyn win over the Atlanta Hawks–will be out again tomorrow night versus Golden State (ankle) and may even miss Friday's game against the Heat as well. He was treated with cortisone and PRP (platelet-rich plasma) by team doctors in the hope of reducing the swelling in his ever-so-fragile ankles. The treatment is the same one he received multiple times last season in order to avoid possible surgery on both of his ankles, which are each injured, even though the left one is what kept Deron from playing yesterday. It looks like Shaun Livingston will continue to play the point in D-Will's absence and Alan Anderson will shift to starting shooting guard, and Joe, Paul, and KG round out the lineup.
The Nets also learned recently that they were awarded a DPE (Disabled Player Exemption) of $5.25 million because of Brook Lopez's season-ending foot injury. The exemption would allow Brooklyn to pick up an additional player for their roster, but would still subject the Nets to harshened luxury tax penalties, especially if all $5.25 million is used. However, the Nets don't even currently have the roster space for another player and probably won't sign anyone (other than possibly D-League call-ups) during season. The DPE is just a safety net for Brooklyn should the team be in dire need of a fresh body.
