Netlinked 11/5/14: Tim Walsh wins award, Mikhail Prokhorov says funny things

With the Nets-Timberwolves tilt at Barclays a few hours away, here are some Nets links to keep you occupied. By the way, a win tonight would bring Brooklyn’s record to 3-1 and extend the team’s winning streak to three.

First off, Nets longtime trainer extraordinaire Tim Walsh was selected as the Joe O’Toole Athletic Trainer of the Year for the 2013-14 NBA season. The NBATA (NBA’s Trainer Association) awards the honor for “exemplary achievement or outstanding service” each season. Walsh has won the award before, for the 2003-4 season.

Walsh is known as one of the top trainers in the league, so the honor isn’t much of a surprise and is well-deserved for Tim, who worked for the Knicks and Magic before coming to the Nets, first in New Jersey. He’s in his 15th season with the team.

Moving on, this was mentioned a few days ago, but Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov is increasingly becoming one of the best quotes in the whole NBA. Before Monday’s Nets win over the Thunder, their home opener, Prokhorov–who was in attendance–was asked about the whole Jason Kidd situation and how Kidd forced his own firing after a failed power grab.

Prokie responded with one of the funnier lines a team owner has said in a long, long time.

From the New York Post: “You know, I think there is a nice proverb in English,” Prokhorov said with a smile during his 15-minute media session. “Don’t let the door hit you where the good Lord split you.”

Clearly, Prokhorov is a little upset as how Kidd’s departure from the Nets proceeded. But his Nets are 2-1 now under Lionel Hollins so I’m sure he is getting over it.
