Joe's score of 11 in the 3-Point Shootout wasn't just bad, it was terrible |
The Nets had a pair of representatives for All-Star Friday night's Rising Stars Game and Saturday's Three-Point Contest, with one (Joe Johnson) in today's All-Star Game, after not having any in either for a year.
Mason Plumlee was on Team Webber for Rising Stars and certainly showed the rest of the NBA just how good he is at scoring. Sure, his 20-point, seven-rebound (on 10-for-13 shooting) came in a glorified exhibition, but the fact that he was able to dominate other young, talented players for a high scoring output does say something about his explosiveness. Of course, a few big jams came with his game–as always–and he even compiled four steals. Both offense and defense in a game that doesn't exhibits Mason's all-around utllity for Brooklyn.
Meanwhile, the Nets' Three-Point Contest rep didn't do as well as his Rising Stars counterpart.
Joe Johnson, participating in the competition after a 39% 3FG in season's 1st half, was way too slow in getting his shots off to even finish his last rack of shots. It also didn't help that he didn't make many of the shots he took, leaving him with a contest-low score of a measly 11. The next-lowest shooter, Arron Afflalo of the Magic who missed out on the All-Star Game because of Joe, was able to get 15. Joe's time-consuming shooting motion doesn't translate well to that sort of format, so a down round was to be expected, possibly. Still, though, 11 is pretty bad.
