K-Mart was on the Nets for the 2001-02 and 2002-03 Eastern Conference Championship with Jason Kidd. Now he joins Kidd in Manhattan with the Knicks |
As I'm sure you heard, today–at 3:00 pm especially–was the last day for teams to make trades in the NBA this season, colloquially known as trade deadline day. Although the Nets were rumored to make a few different deals (Ben Gordon one, Josh Smith one, etc), they actually made no roster moves at all and just watched as other teams pulled trades left and right, albeit mostly not major ones.
The biggest deal was when J.J. Redick of the Magic was sent with Gustavo Ayon and Ish Smith to the Milwaukee Bucks for Tobias Harris, Doron Lamb, and Beno Udrih. Redick was rumored to be on the outs in Orlando for awhile now and it was widely believed for around a week now that the Bucks were in on him.
The rest of the deals were mostly minor, although a few former Nets were on the move. First off, Anthony Morrow–sent by the Nets to Atlanta in the Joe Johnson trade this summer–moved on to the Dallas Mavericks in exchange for New Jersey native Dahntay Jones.
Then, in a non-trade move, the division rival Knicks signed former Net Kenyon Martin to a 10-day contract, as was rumored earlier this season. K-Mart was on the Clippers last season and gives the Knicks some more front-court depth as they wait for Rasheed Wallace to return from injury. The signing also continues the Knicks' quest to be the best current NBA team if wins were based on 2003 ability. The difference between them and other teams in that category is unparalleled right now.
