Thanks to a Northeast blizzard that might land more than three feet of snow across parts of the New York metropolitan area, tonight’s Nets game against the Portland Trail Blazers has been postponded, according to various reports.
Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports was the first to break the news, initially saying that the game hadn’t officially been rescheduled yet but that the NBA was going to make an announcement soon on the status of the tilt.
Then, Andy Vasquez of The Record (New Jersey) posted a story quoting an email from the Nets to a season ticket holder, saying that the game had in fact been rescheduled for Monday, April 6th and that all already-bought tickets for the game will be honored then. No other confirmation has been given by either the team or any other media source on the possible makeup date but Vasquez’ seems legitimate.
It was probably a foregone conclusion that this game wouldn’t be played tonight, considering how treacherous conditions are expected to be throughout the New York City area today and for the next few days, as this latest storm is expected to be historic in scope. Also, the Knicks were scheduled to play the Sacramento Kings at MSG tonight as well but that will most likely be canceled as well.
Honestly, this postponement couldn’t come at a better time for the Nets. They’re struggling mightily, having lost 10 of their last 12 games, and are still without Deron Williams (rib) for the foreseeable future, as well as Mirza Teletovic (season-ending blood clots). Now, they don’t play again until Wednesday–in Atlanta against the Hawks, so that’s not too good–and have time to rest up and maybe get D-Will back.
