You'll notice I didn't write about last week's poll, and I considered not writing about this one's either — it's really much too early to be giving rankings like this. But I went too long last week without writing anything, so here's to a pretext for posting!
Much like the first two polls, it's close at the top with a wide constellation of votes. The Stanford Cardinal are your #1 ranked team, displacing Long Beach State after the 49ers' loss to BYU this past week. First-place votes likewise went to Loyola, Pepperdine, and USC, but I really do think at this point a lot of it is just a function of who have played whom. Sure Pepperdine are 2-0, but that's a) only two matches b) two home matches, and c) one against likely the weakest team in the MPSF. Have they proven themselves worthy of #1 votes, and of the #3 overall ranking they hold? It's hard to say.
The team making the biggest strides up the poll is Hawaii, with the Rainbow Warriors jumping four spots to occupy #10 overall. Ohio State, who were swept out of Hawaii's Outrigger Hotels Invitational, take the biggest tumble, falling from #12 to #15.
I still think it's too early to be making rankings (hence why I'm not), but I get that teams and fans need to something to beat their chests about. You can view the full poll here.
