New England Destroys Chicago At Home in Bearrific Blowout

cros

Good afternoon, Patriots fans! Our New England team took on the Chicago Bears in an important game at Gillette Stadium. I almost had tickets to this game and I seriously wish I could have witnessed the Patriots blowout the Bears in person (could not go as my family and I are observing Diwali). Nonetheless, it was still an awesome game on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball. With the win, the Patriots move to 6-2 and still have sole possession of first place in the AFC East (despite Buffalo beating the NY Jets and Miami beating Jacksonville).

What an amazing first half. It’s hard to make me jump out of my seat, yell, and laugh. But the Patriots did that and I enjoyed every moment of it. We saw the Bears fall victim to the Patriots’ defense. And after each stop, the Patriots put points up on the board. First a touchdown pass from Tom Brady to Rob Gronkowski (helped set up by big plays by Brandon LaFell and Stevan Ridley’s potential replacement, Jonas Gray), a field goal from Stephen Gostkowski, and another TD catch, this time to Tim Wright. Jay Cutler did drive the bears down though and found Matt Forte for the touchdown. But then the flood gates opened. New England responded with the fastest 3 touchdowns I’ve ever seen. Faster than the ones they got in the Thanksgiving Buttfumble game and possibly faster than the touchdowns scored by the Steelers against the Texans this season. First it was Brady finding Gronkowski for his 2nd touchdown, then a touchdown catch by LaFell (after Julian Edelman returned the ball deep inside the Chicago’s red zone), and finally a fumble recovery for a touchdown by Rob Ninkovich! I honestly couldn’t believe what I was seeing. After Darrelle Revis picked off Cutler to end the 1st half, I was shocked to see the Patriots on top of the Bears 38-7.

The one-sided affair continued in the 2nd half. Brady earned his 5th touchdown pass by finding Gronkowski, who ran it nearly 50 yards for the touchdown (Gronk’s 2nd touchdown of the game)! But then the game cooled down a little. Martellus Bennett caught a touchdown pass from Cutler (the 2 point conversion was good), Gostkowski added a field goal, and then Alshon Jeffrey caught a touchdown pass from Cutler (the 2 point conversion was good, once again). Jimmy Garoppolo came in for Brady and got sacked by Lamarr Houston. Houston decided to celebrate immaturely and it looked like he injured himself while celebrating. While I would NEVER wish injury on any player or laugh, come on. You’re celebrating a sack on a backup rookie quarterback with little-to-no NFL experience when your team is down big time in the game. I thought that was entertaining. But either way, Gostkowski would add another field goal on that drive and that would be your all. In blowout fashion, the final score: Chicago Bears 23, New England Patriots 51!

This was a much needed win for the Patriots. Coming into this game, we had several questions. Among them included the replacements for Ridley, Jerod Mayo, and Chandler Jones. Gray and James White did an excellent job at covering for Ridley today (not too convinced yet), and the defense made it seem like Mayo and Jones were never even missed. However, we also have to remember that the Chicago Bears came into this game as a dysfunctional team within and the Patriots took full advantage of that. Next week, New England takes on…yeah…the Denver Broncos. The good thing is that the game will be in Foxboro! So the game will be pretty close. I do not expect a blowout for either team but the Patriots should take this win over Chicago as a big motivation booster. I feel if they play with this kind of passion, heading into the bye week after beating the Broncos sounds like a certain outcome. Until then though Pats fans, enjoy the rest of the week!
