Rick: I like Thursday night games, but it should stick to mainly the opening week and a couple of weeks in December. Thursday night games are not meant all season long due to all the injuries occurring in the game today. With the injuries, you can’t game plan as much in three days and have to go mainly with walkthrough practices. This year, most of the Thursdaynight games have not been competitive at all. The NFL is meant for Sundays and Monday, but Thursday nights have also lacked the appealing matchups in terms of a rarity that we see two great teams play each other during those games. Maybe that will change in the future, but as of right now, I would lean towards the NFL sticking to Sundays and Mondays.
Kyle: My opinion has not changed- it is horrible that the NFL puts players on the field with less rest than an average major league starting pitcher. Our kids will e reading of long-term injury lawsuits filed by former players directly related to this asinine idea. But as long at the owners can make it rain at their country clubs- it won’t end.
Raj: I’m not a big fan of Thursday Night Football. The reason being it’s just an odd day to have football. Thursday really has no significance anytime during the year except for Thanksgiving. I’m fine with Thanksgiving games because people have off that day. You might be wondering “well if I’m implying that people have school/work the next day, how come Sunday/ Monday night games are okay?” Sunday nights are honestly fine because it’s still the weekend and we all love NBC’s coverage more than anyone else’s. Most Sunday night games are really fun to watch, even if they’re one-sided. In terms of Monday night games, well…who likes a Monday?! No one. Mondays are the worst because no one really wants to go to school/work that day (at least I don’t). But hey, after coming back home tired, you get to sit back on your couch, eat food/ice cream, drink water/soda/milk/coffee/tea/beer/wine, and watch some football! Why does the same not apply for Thursday? While you could make the same argument about being tired, you really can’t because guess what? Tomorrow would be Friday! So by Thursday night, you’re already gearing up for the weekend. That kind of defeats the purpose of getting excited for all of Sunday’s games if you’re going to show a really lame Thursday night game. Of course, this week’s Thursday night game between the Patriots and Jets should be a real good one (but maybe I’m biased). The only times I approve of of Thursday nights showing some football is for the first game of the regular season – because fans have been waiting all summer for some football. Otherwise, I’m all for Sunday/Monday night football.
Derek: Give me a Sunday afternoon game any day of the week. (Wait a minute…) With two kids, and a full-time job, the last thing I need during the week is a game to keep me up late on Thursday. I’ll do my fanly duty and pay the price for it on Friday morning, but I would much prefer to watch the game well-rested on a Sunday. Plus, Mondays are much more bearable when you’re coming off a fresh Patriots victory!
