Will the ratings jump off the page today? Probably not.

Will the IndyCar Series get any kind of a significant bump from Sunday’s race, which lacked neither a Danica Patrick-like national story nor a jaw-dropping finish? Probably not.

In the sport’s 500-mile race back to national significance, IndyCar is only halfway home, still lagging desperately behind NASCAR. And yet, this year’s race felt hopeful, felt big and important, which hasn’t always been the case in recent years.

Call it a step in the right direction.
