The Pirates signed James Skelton, a Rule 5 of the Diamondbacks (who was eventually traded to the D-Backs, rather than returned to the Tigers) pick last year, to fill the Robinzon Diaz Memorial “Catcher That’s Not Like a Catcher” role in the minors. Prior to 2009, he’d been an interesting prospect because of his bat, but he really struggled last year (Basball America).
