Jesse Spector at the Daily News takes a look at the possibilites of New York hosting the 2012 Winter Classic…
“The SportsBusiness Journal reported Tuesday that while the late-December Pinstripe Bowl has eliminated Yankee Stadium from being considered to host the NHL’s annual New Year’s showcase, there are no scheduling conflicts to “hurt the chances of Citi Field or New Meadowlands Stadium…There might be more difficulty in sending the Giants and Jets on the road simultaneously at the end of the season, but such a situation would not be impossible to solve if the Meadowlands is selected.”
…yesterday Greg Wyshynski at Puck Daddy asked his readers where they think next year’s Winter Classic should be and who should be in it. My answere was the New Meadowlands with the Rangers taking on the Montreal Canadiens.
…i know most of us would love the Rangers to take on the Islanders or Devils but that would be a ratings disaster for the NHL. Two original six teams in the largest media market I think would be hugely successful. The only other team that would also work ratings wise would be the Kings. But there is no rivaly there, so I don’t think there would be that much hype.
…what are your thoughts?
