Spotlight on: Ohio State Men’s Hockey – 11/9 vs Alaska
The Ohio State Men’s Hockey team opened its home schedule with a 1-1 tie and a shootout win against Alaska on Friday night at Value City Arena. Sophomore Alex McCormick tied the game almost as soon as the third period began to tie the game at 1. In the shootout, Ryan Dzingel scored to secure the win for the Buckeyes in the sixth round.
The game was scoreless after one period after the goalies had combined for 24 saves. Then, at 5:05 into the second period, Alaska took a 1-0 lead after a Colton Parayko goal. Curtis Gedig tied it up for the Buckeyes at 1-1 early in the third period.
Neither team was able to score in overtime, and each goalie tallied two saves. The shootout went six rounds, and finally, Dzingel’s goal gave Ohio State the win. The Buckeyes were outshot 35-34 in the game, and Buckeye goalie Brady Hjelle finished with 34 saves.
11/10 – The Buckeyes fell 3-1 to Alaska despite getting 42 saves from goalie Collin Olson. The loss dropped the Buckeyes to 2-3-1 on the season.
Men’s Soccer
11/4 – The Buckeyes tied Wisconsin 0-0 in two overtimes to conclude the season. They finished with an 18-10 advantage in shots for the day.
11/8 – The 2012 season came to a close for Ohio State as they fell to regular season Big Ten Champion Northwestern in the Big Ten tournament quarterfinal 2-0.
Women’s Soccer
11/10 – The 2012 season ended for the Ohio State Women’s Soccer Team after a 3-1 penalty kick loss to Oakland in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The Buckeyes finished with a 16-4-2 record and Big Ten Tournament Championship.
Women’s Ice Hockey
11/3 – The Buckeyes won 4-2 at St. Cloud State. Four different Ohio State players scored for the Bucks in the win including senior Paige Semenza.
Women’s Volleyball
11/4 – The No. 15 Buckeyes fell to No. 10 Minnesota 3-2 at St. John Arena despite senior Mari Hole’s career-high tying 26 kills.
11/7 – The No. 15 Buckeyes tallied 15 blocks in a 3-1 win against Northwestern on Wednesday night.
11/10 – Ohio State tallied its 20th win this season with a 3-2 win over Illinois on Saturday. Senior Mari Hole finished with her 14th double-double of the season with 21 kills and 12 digs.
Women’s Swimming & Diving
11/9 – The Buckeyes fell 191-109 on Friday night to 8th-ranked Tennessee. Senior Emily Creran was the lone individual winner for Ohio State, winning the 200 backstroke.
11/10 – Ohio State defeated Ohio 182-112 in Athens on Saturday. The Buckeyes won 13 out of the 16 events at the meet.
Men’s Swimming & Diving
11/9 – Half of the team stayed in Columbus and half of the team traveled to Knoxville as the Buckeyes took on both Miami and Tennessee on Friday night. Ohio State emerged victorious in both meets, defeating Tennessee 176.50-123.50 and Miami 140-112.
