Spotlight on: Ohio State Women’s Volleyball
The No. 15 Ohio State women’s volleyball team defeated No. 21 Purdue on Friday night 3-0. in West Lafayette. Senior Mari Hole had 17 kills and 10 digs en route to her sixteenth double-double of the season.
In the first set, Purdue led 11-4 before the Buckeyes cut the lead to 11-9 after a 5 point run. The set was tied at 14-14 before a few Purdue miscues allowed Ohio State to take a 17-15 lead. A 4 point run gave the Buckeyes a 21-17 lead, and an Emily Danks block would give them the set 25-19.
An early Boilermaker run in the second set was quelled by a few errors on their part that led to Ohio State taking a 7-6 lead. Later in the set, a Hole kill gave the Buckeyes a 24-19 lead, but the Boilermakers fought back to tie it up. Eventually, the Buckeyes won 29-27 to go ahead 2-0.
The third set was all Ohio State. They took an early 10-2 lead before another 7-0 run gave them a 17-5 advantage. A Danks service ace eventually gave the Buckeyes a 24-10 lead and a Kaitlyn Leary kill sealed it for them at 25-11.
The Buckeyes played again on Saturday, defeating Indiana in Bloomington 3-1. Hole became the 20th Buckeye in the program’s history to notch 1,000 kills. She finished with 24 for the match. The win improved Ohio State’s record to 22-8 overall and 13-5 in the Big Ten.
Men’s Ice Hockey
On Friday, Ohio State shut out No. 19 Northern M!ch!g@n in a 2-0 victory. Goalie Brady Hjelle had 20 saves for the Buckeyes, while Travis Statchuk and Max McCormick scored the two goals. The Buckeyes again defeated Northern M!ch!g@n to complete the sweep in a 4-2 victory on Saturday. The win moved Ohio State to 4-3-3 on the year.
Men’s Swimming and Diving
On Saturday, Ohio State climbed into third place at the Magnus Cup Invitational with a score of 730 points. Michael Gallagher led Ohio State with a second-place finish in the 100 backstroke.
Wrestling
The No. 5 Buckeyes won 40-3 at Davidson, recording bonus point wins in six of their matches on Thursday. It was the first time Ohio State scored 40 points since 2009. Then, on Friday, The Buckeyes defeated No. 12 Virginia Tech 23-1o after winning four consecutive matches, improving its record to 2-0.
Women’s Ice Hockey
The Buckeyes suffered a 4-2 loss to Wisconsin on Friday night at the Schott. They bounced back on Saturday, however, to defeat the Badgers 3-1 to improve to 10-4 on the season.
Pistol
Ohio State defeated Akron for the second time this season by a score of 5,374-4,177 on Saturday (11/17) led by AJ Tourigny in the free pistol, Greyson McCaig in standard pistol, and Joe Totts in the air pistol.
