Spotlight on: Ohio State Men’s Ice Hockey
The Ohio State men’s hockey team beat Michigan State last Friday with a 1-0 win.
On Friday, Ryan Dzingel’s third period goal broke a scoreless game to give Ohio State a 1-0 lead and eventually the win. OSU goalie Brady Hjelle had 31 saves to tally his 3rd shut out this season.
The Spartans could not score in the first period despite a 14-8 shot advantage and a power play. Hjelle finished the period with 14 saves.
In the second period, both the Buckeyes and Spartans had goals overturned by video review, leaving the game scoreless. Ohio State led the period in shots 13-5 but could not capitalize on any of them. Spartan goalie Jake Hildebrand had 13 saves.
In the third period, at 17:47, Dzingel scored off a pass from Curtis Gedig to give the Buckeyes the lead. Both teams had 12 shots in the period, and Ohio State had the lone power play.
12/1 – The men’s hockey team defeated Michigan State again 3-1 on Saturday to sweep the Spartans. Tyler Lundey, Tanner Fritz, and Ryan Dzingel all scored for the Buckeyes. Goalie Brady Hjelle finished with 22 saves.
Women’s Ice Hockey
11/30 – The Ohio State women’s hockey team tied Minnesota State on Friday night 0-0, but went on to defeat them on Saturday 4-3. Hokey Langan scored two goals while Julie McKinnon and Paige Semenza each added one a piece for the Buckeyes.
Women’s Volleyball
11/30 – The Ohio State women’s volleyball opened up the NCAA tournament with a 3-0 (25-16, 25-21, 25-17) sweep of Notre Dame. The team finished with a season best .512 attack percentage. Junior Kaitlyn Leary led the Buckeyes with 16 kills on 19 attempts.
12/1 – The Buckeyes lost in the second round of the NCAA tournament to Kentucky 3-1 (25-18, 24-26, 15-25, 18-25). Ohio State finished 23-11 on the year, and finished 4th in the Big Ten, their best finish since 2009. Senior Mari Hole led the Buckeyes with 18 kills and 12 digs for her 18th double double of the season.
